January 2021

"High School Printmaking"

The Bern Seiderman gallery is proud to Present the January 2021 show featuring the work from Mr. Lentini’s printmaking class.  The work of Mr. Lentini’s Printmaking class illustrates the subtleties of surface and intaglio printing techniques which explore different themes such as human behavior, social interaction, nature, self-reflection, and remembrance.

In a world of modern technology, the students are drawn to the printmaking process because of the direct tactile relationship it requires of both physical materials and the development of the image.  The matrix or printing plate evolves gradually as each mark builds upon the previous, creating a physical record of past action across the surface in what often becomes a true labor of love for the student.  Mistakes are not easily undone as they must be painstakingly corrected or inventively incorporated into the image, often leading down new paths of creativity and innovation in a way that a “Control-Z” option on a computer would likely have stymied.

These figurative prints represent ambiguous narratives that can be characterized as hyperbole. These student works, as chronicled across multiple surfaces and eventually consigned to paper impression, invite a dialogue with viewers and illustrate the dedication and fortitude of the students.
